Dr. Ryohei Seto is a computational physicist with broad experience in soft materials science, including colloidal dynamics, suspension rheology, and granular systems. His current research focuses on fluid mechanics of suspensions, biomechanics, and transport phenomena in biological systems. After receiving his Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics in 2006, he received a postdoctoral fellowship from the French government to work on soft matter physics at the Solid States Physics Laboratory (Orsay) and the Chemical Engineering Laboratory (Toulouse). He also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Technical University of Munich, the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (Mainz), and the City College of New York. He joined the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology as a group leader (senior staff scientist) in 2015. He is now a PI researcher at the Wenzhou Institute, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, since October 2019. He is also a visiting professor at the Graduate School of Simulation Studies, University of Hyogo since April 2020. He is particularly known for his study of shear thickening, a phenomenon in which a fluid becomes more viscous at higher stresses. His work is highly cited and has had a tremendous impact on the field, with one paper winning the 2015 Publication Award of The Society of Rheology, and he has given invited talks at many international conferences and workshops.
